Fastly Outage
Incident Report for Sendle
Resolved
At approximately 8pm on June 8 2021 AEST, Fastly, a global CDN provider, suffered an outage. This caused content served by Fastly to be inaccessible. The outage affected large portions of the Internet including major websites such as Amazon, Shopify, and Etsy.

Sendle was affected because our static assets for the dashboard and landing page are all served by Fastly. Fastly acts as a proxy cache for these assets, so all requests for our assets hit the Fastly servers, which serve a cached version of the asset or calls our upstream servers if none exists in the cache.

When Fastly went down, all requests to assets.sendle.com returned a `503` error.

This affected assets including:
- Javascript bundles
- CSS Stylesheets
- All Image files

The result was that much of the Sendle website, would be displayed unstyled and with JavaScript assets not loading. Functionality such as ordering, tracking, support tools, order management, settings and billing management, were all inoperable as they depended on javascript assets.

During this time the API was unaffected, which also reduced the severity of this issue, since partner SLAs were unaffected.
